During the 1980s and much of the 1990s, Nautilus styled weight lifting equipment was widely used. A decreasing number of people engaged in free weight lifting workouts. In time, however, and certainly by the late 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century, people began returning to free weight lifting workouts. There are a number of reasons why people interested in health and fitness have reconnected with the idea of utilizing free weight lifting workouts.
First of all, in the 1980s and 1990s many people expressed concerns that engaging in free weight lifting workouts was more dangerous to a person than using the Nautilus style equipment. One of the major selling points of the Nautilus style equipment was found in the argument that people using such equipment suffered far fewer accidental injuries that men and women engaged in free weight lifting workouts.
In reality, as long as a person properly is engaging in free weight lifting workouts, the instances or risk of injury in free weight lifting workouts is really no different than that to be found in Nautilus or Nautilus-like routines. The idea that free weight lifting workouts were more risky than Nautilus type workouts proved to be something of an unfounded myth in time.

If a trainer is not in the picture for you, you might want to give serious consideration to pairing up with a training partner when it comes to free weight lifting workouts. A workout partner can keep you motivated in pursuing your particular goals when it comes to free weight lifting workouts.
Finally, before you commence undertaking free weight lifting workouts you need to consult with your physician. A person should not initiate any sort of exercise or diet program without first meeting with his or her doctor. By meeting with a doctor in advance of free weight lifting workouts or a new diet, you will be able to make certain that your health will be benefited and not impaired via such a program.
